  • LA Flash Talk Series Brains Uncorked Returns on January 27

LA Flash Talk Series Brains Uncorked Returns on January 27

Each month, three local professors will share ideas that go down smooth, but stick with you, in flash talks at a local bar.

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, January 15, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The year’s first installment of Brains Uncorked—a live event series where, each month, three scholars share brief, thought-provoking talks—will return to West LA bar The Nickel Mine on Tuesday, January 27 at 7:00 PM. The series is returning after a holiday hiatus, which featured a virtual quiz, complete with bookish prizes, in place of a live event.

Brains Uncorked aims to bring Los Angeles’s most curious residents sharp insights and bold perspectives that challenge thinking and spark meaningful conversations among attendees, as well as challenge academics to consider how to translate research without flattening it. On the 27th, three professors from local universities will share insights they’ve gathered from years of in-depth research in just 10-15 minutes each.

Dr. Shari Berkowitz, Professor of Criminal Justice Administration at CSU Dominguez Hills, will introduce the audience to her research into eyewitness testimony in the courtroom, particularly the issue of mistaken memories.

Dr. Ignacio Sarmiento, Associate Professor in the Department of Central American and Transborder Studies at CSU Northridge, will speak about the recent civil wars in Central America. These wars have left a death toll of nearly 300,000 people, yet mourning those deaths has proven to be a challenging process, with grieving in Central America becoming a privilege rather than a right.

Dr. Philip A. Vieira, Professor of Psychology at CSU Dominguez Hills, will debunk some common misconceptions about dopamine, particularly how social media wellness influencers pushing dopamine “hacking” misrepresent the role of dopamine and our individual capacity for controlling the brain’s function.

The evening will conclude with a Q&A. The event is free and open to all 21+, though reservations are encouraged. The address of The Nickel Mine is 11363 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90025. There is metered parking on the street and in the lot behind the venue. A full bar and menu will be available throughout the evening.

Interested attendees should RSVP through Eventbrite:

  • Portland Trial Lawyer’s Lifelong Commitment to Cycling, Motorcycling, and Boating Combine in Advocacy and Law Practice

Portland Trial Lawyer’s Lifelong Commitment to Cycling, Motorcycling, and Boating Combine in Advocacy and Law Practice

Former Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney blends courtroom experience, athletic community support, and humanitarian service

I initially hauled my mountain bike to Lake Oswego before riding into Portland, and by 1995 I was commuting full‑time from West Linn to the courthouse, more than 20 miles each way”

    — Mike Colbach

PORTLAND, OR, UNITED STATES, January 15, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — For Portland personal injury trial lawyer Michael Colbach, advocacy for cyclists and motorcyclists extends far beyond the courtroom. It reflects a lifetime spent riding, racing, and supporting causes rooted in sport, health and community.

Colbach started riding bicycles seriously in 1994 when he started his first law job as a Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney. It started out as an economic decision, “I did not make much money and parking, gas, insurance, etc. were eating up a big chunk of my paycheck. I initially hauled my mountain bike to Lake Oswego before riding into Portland, and by 1995 I was commuting full‑time from West Linn to the courthouse, more than 20 miles each way.”

What began as bicycle commuting quickly evolved into bicycle racing and what he calls the bike bug, “I trained around 30 hours a week and rode many thousands of miles a year,” Colbach said. “Before long, I joined a team and began doing stage races and cyclocross. I raced for Presto Velo for years and eventually became the team’s main cash sponsor, BicycleAttorney.com.”

That lived experience followed Colbach into the courtroom, where he spent the next eight years focused almost entirely on trial work. He tried approximately 100 criminal jury trials, with a singular emphasis on becoming a stronger, more effective trial lawyer.

At the end of 2002, Colbach opened his own personal injury law practice. Calls from cyclists who knew him came early and often, and his practice naturally evolved into a bicycle‑focused practice with about half of his cases being bicycle injury, and the other half motor vehicle, motorcycle cases, and personal injury cases.

Cycling has remained central to Colbach’s life. In addition to serving as the title sponsor of the BicycleAttorney.com racing team, he continues to support the broader Oregon cycling community through events such as Race Monday Nights at Portland International Raceway and other community‑based cycling initiatives.

Colbach is also an experienced motorcyclist having ridden thousands of miles on his street motorcycle, and having ridden motocross, and off road motorcycles. In the early years of his practice, Colbach once offered a free PSSR Track Day to all of his motorcycle clients at Portland International Raceway. PSSR Instructors were some of the very best on the West Coast. The motorcycle riders were some of the fastest on the West Coast.

In 2016 Colbach hosted his own invitational PSSR Track Day at PIR, and PSSR invited the 25 fastest motorcycle riders in the PNW.

In 2017 Colbach began his 9 years affiliated with Andy DiBrino, an Oregon‑grown professional motorcycle racer who is from the same Portland suburb area that Mike grew up. “Andy is a huge talent and it has been an amazing experience to cheer for him and all the great motorcycle sport and motorcycle projects he gets involved with, like his documentary films projects he’s been involved with.”

Colbach is referring to a documentary Andy DiBrino filmed as he competed in 3 different riding disciplines on three back to back weekends chasing his first RSD Superhooligan National Championship, his 2017 Oregon motorcycle road racing association formula ultra championship and a professional stunt riding gig.

“There is a film where Andy showcases his ability to drift both 2 and 4 wheels. Andy excels at motorcycle handling skills and this really shows off his talent. It is fantastic that Andy is doing some coaching at track days in the area.”

Colbach says he himself has enjoyed many motorcycle track days, “I’m a huge advocate continued motorcycle rider training and track days offer experience with your motorcycle in a non traffic environment where you can push your skills to improve and get seat time on your motorcycle. The help of other riders and coaches is also invaluable in helping you gain confidence and build new skills.”

In 2022 Colbach purchased and donated more than 25 new, race‑ready mountain bikes to boys at the Casa Girasoles orphanage in Peru and sent longtime Presto Velo teammate Hugh Givens and one time sponsor of the Presto Velo team and retired owner of the Portland bike store Bike N Hike, Kevin Chudy who delivered the bicycles.

“The team rode bikes with the kids for nearly a month, teaching them how to build and repair them. We hope a few of the boys might be able to represent their own Peru national team one day, Pan Am 2027, or even race professionally,” Colbach says.

Colbach speaks enthusiastically about Peru Gravel Camp which he personally attended in 2024 along with 10 others from the BicycleAttorney.com team including Givens and Chudy. “It was a life changing experience. The camps are a great way to raise money while providing the experience the trip of a lifetime.”

Colbach also has a long running commitment to hunger‑relief efforts in Oregon and Washington, utilizing his skills Colbach is also a 100‑ton U.S. Coast Guard‑licensed captain and an avid offshore angler. Colbach has captained his own boat in the Oregon Tuna Classic since its inception, fishing with his team who regularly fish in these waters together on the Shake N Bake.

Colbach’s team won in 2014 and got to compete in the competed in the Offshore Sport Fishing World Championships. The event expanded into additional tournaments such as the Deep Canyon Challenge and Washington Tuna Classic, Colbach continues his involvement.

In 2025, Colbach’s fishing efforts resulted in the donation of 6.5 tons of albacore tuna to the Washington food bank.

Whether on the road, on the water, or in the community, Colbach’s career and personal pursuits have merged around a shared goal: accountability, access, and helping others.

Those same values define Colbach’s legal practice today, which focuses on serious injury cases involving bicycle, pedestrian, motorcycle, and motor vehicle, or boating. He operates a deliberately low‑volume trial practice, preparing every case as if it will be decided by a jury. “An attorney can buy their way into legal associations and law magazines, but the only way to get good trial verdicts is through skill and hard work.”

  • Mary Technologies Introduces Patient Access Terminal to the U.S., Bringing Life-Saving Primary Care to the Last Mile

Mary Technologies Introduces Patient Access Terminal to the U.S., Bringing Life-Saving Primary Care to the Last Mile

PAT is a clinical-grade primary care platform designed to bring timely diagnosis and physician-guided care to under-served communities.

Too many people don’t die because medicine doesn’t exist—they die because it arrives too late”

    — Felix D. Davis, Chief Executive Officer of Mary Health

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, UNITED STATES, January 15, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Mary Health has announced the introduction of its Patient Access Terminal (PAT) to the United States market. PAT is a clinical-grade primary care platform designed to bring timely diagnosis and physician-guided care to communities where distance, cost, and lack of infrastructure have too often meant delayed treatment and preventable loss of life.

To understand what the Patient Access Terminal makes possible, Mary Health points to a simple moment that plays out every day in Accra, Ghana.

A mother walks up to a PAT with her young son. In under five minutes, she receives essential vital signs and clinical-grade physiological data—information that previously required a two-hour journey to the nearest clinic. The system securely captures the child’s health data, an AI triage engine evaluates risk, and when necessary, a licensed physician reviews the information and consults remotely. The family never travels more than two kilometers.

This is what clinical-grade primary care looks like at the last mile.

“Too many people don’t die because medicine doesn’t exist—they die because it arrives too late,” said Mary Health Chief Executive Officer, Felix D. Davis. “The Patient Access Terminal is built to close that gap.”

    Turning Telehealth Into Data-Driven Medicine
Traditional telehealth solutions address only an estimated 15–20% of healthcare needs, largely because they lack structured, reliable patient data. Without vitals, diagnostics, and longitudinal records, remote care is often limited to basic consultations.

Mary Technologies’ Patient Access Terminal changes that equation.

Each PAT is a distributed, point-of-care unit that captures high-quality physiological data at the community level. AI-powered triage identifies urgency, while licensed physicians step in when human judgment is required. Clinicians are not replaced—they are empowered with the data layer needed to make accurate, timely decisions from a distance.

This infrastructure-first approach transforms telemedicine from video calls into true remote diagnosis.

Addressing Health Inequity in the United States
As the Patient Access Terminal enters the American market, Mary Health is focused on rural communities, under-served urban neighborhoods, and regions where clinic closures and provider shortages have left millions without reliable access to primary care.

Late diagnoses of chronic and acute conditions disproportionately affect these populations. By placing clinical-grade diagnostics within walking distance, Mary Technologies aims to reduce avoidable hospitalizations, catch conditions earlier, and ultimately save lives.

    Built for Scale, Proven Globally

The PAT infrastructure is already being deployed in Ghana, with plans to scale globally. The same model—physical terminals paired with digital intelligence and licensed clinicians—can be adapted to healthcare systems worldwide.
Mary Technologies is building the physical and digital backbone required to eliminate late-diagnosis deaths at population scale.

“This is not about gadgets,” the company emphasized. “It’s about building the healthcare infrastructure that should have existed decades ago.”

    About Mary Technologies

Mary Technologies is a healthcare infrastructure company focused on delivering clinical-grade primary care at the last mile. By combining distributed Patient Access Terminals, AI-driven triage, and licensed physician oversight, Mary Technologies enables data-driven remote diagnosis and expands access to lifesaving care in under-served communities worldwide.

    Tempe, Arizona – January 15, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –

Tonys Picks, a California company, announced today the integration of artificial intelligence technology into its sports information and analysis division, marking a significant advancement in data-driven sports predictions and analysis methods.

The company has implemented sophisticated AI algorithms to enhance the accuracy and depth of sports analysis, particularly focusing on college basketball picks and professional sports predictions. This technological integration represents a strategic expansion of the company’s analytical capabilities, utilizing machine learning models to process vast amounts of historical game data, player statistics, and performance metrics.

    Tonys Picks

The AI-powered system analyzes multiple data points, including team performance trends, player matchups, injury reports, and historical patterns to generate comprehensive insights for sports enthusiasts. The technology processes information from thousands of games across multiple seasons, identifying patterns and correlations that traditional analysis methods might overlook.

“The integration of artificial intelligence into sports analysis represents a fundamental shift in how we approach data interpretation and prediction modeling,” said Anthony, spokesperson for TonysPicks. “Our AI system can process and analyze exponentially more data points than traditional methods, providing deeper insights into game outcomes and player performances.”

New Muse Treatment Resource Details the Dangers of Opioid-Induced Respiratory Suppression

    LOS ANGELES, CA – January 15, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –

Muse Treatment Alcohol & Drug Rehab Los Angeles has released a new educational resource examining the clinical risks and mechanisms of respiratory depression caused by opioid use. The article, titled “How Dangerous Is Respiratory Depression From Opioids“, presents medically grounded information intended to support patients, families, and healthcare professionals seeking clarity on one of the most serious and life-threatening consequences of opioid exposure.

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention consistently identify respiratory depression as a primary driver of opioid-related overdose deaths in the United States. Opioids suppress activity in the brainstem centers responsible for breathing, which can lead to dangerously slow or irregular respiration, reduced oxygen levels, and loss of consciousness. The National Institute on Drug Abuse reports that this risk increases significantly with higher doses, prolonged use, and the combination of opioids with other central nervous system depressants such as alcohol or benzodiazepines. Peer-reviewed research published in journals including The New England Journal of Medicine has shown that respiratory depression can occur unpredictably, even among people with prior opioid tolerance.

The newly published article explains how respiratory depression develops at the physiological level, describing how opioid receptor binding alters neural signaling that regulates breathing. Guidance from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration recognizes this mechanism as a key factor in opioid-related mortality. It emphasizes that understanding is essential for effective prevention and treatment planning. By translating complex medical research into accessible language, the resource helps patients better understand why opioid misuse carries such significant risks and why structured treatment is often necessary.

This educational initiative aligns with the clinical framework for Muse Treatment, which delivers opioid addiction care through evidence-based drug rehab models recognized by national health authorities. Information on available programs can be found at the Muse Treatment website. Services include residential drug rehab programs designed to provide medically supervised care for patients with moderate to severe substance use disorders, as well as drug rehab with MAT, which combines FDA-approved medications with behavioral therapy to reduce withdrawal symptoms and overdose risk. SAMHSA has identified medication-assisted treatment as one of the most effective approaches for reducing opioid-related mortality when appropriately implemented.

Patients accessing care often come from surrounding neighborhoods where proximity and continuity influence treatment engagement. Westwood is among the communities served, reflecting demand for nearby drug addiction treatment centers that emphasize medical oversight. Westwood Village is also represented, underscoring the importance of accessible care when people search for drug rehab near me and related services. Little Holmby and Holmby Hills similarly rely on localized treatment availability that supports consistent participation and follow-up.

The reach of treatment extends to Bel Air, where families often seek structured, clinically grounded programs informed by public health guidance. Brentwood Glen is included as well, highlighting how neighborhood-level access can reduce barriers to initiating evidence-based drug rehab. Sawtelle reflects similar patterns, reinforcing the value of nearby residential drug rehab programs for patients requiring intensive support. Century City is also represented, demonstrating the regional scope of care for people seeking medically informed treatment options.

National outcome data support the approaches discussed in the article. The National Institute on Drug Abuse reports that relapse rates for substance use disorders are comparable to those of other chronic conditions, such as hypertension and diabetes, indicating that sustained, structured care is critical. Programs offering residential drug rehab programs combined with step-down services and medication-assisted treatment are better positioned to address both the biological and behavioral aspects of addiction, particularly when respiratory depression risk is present.

The article also contributes to broader public health education efforts. The CDC notes that many opioid overdose deaths involve polysubstance use, which amplifies respiratory suppression. Increased awareness of this interaction has been linked to expanded use of MAT and closer clinical monitoring. By addressing respiratory depression directly, the resource supports prevention-focused education grounded in federal data and peer-reviewed research.

Accreditation and regulatory oversight further inform the clinical standards reflected in Muse Treatment programs. Organizations such as The Joint Commission emphasize evidence-based practice, medication management, and patient safety as benchmarks for quality addiction treatment. Independent evaluations have shown that accredited drug addiction treatment centers demonstrate stronger adherence to clinical protocols and improved coordination between medical and behavioral health services.

Search analytics from healthcare research firms indicate growing public interest in opioid safety, overdose prevention, and evidence-based drug rehab options that integrate medication-assisted treatment. As digital resources increasingly guide healthcare decisions, educational content supported by third-party evidence plays a critical role in helping patients and families evaluate treatment pathways.

By publishing this resource and integrating it within a broader continuum that includes residential drug rehab programs and drug rehab with MAT, Muse Treatment reinforces the role of education as a foundational element of effective addiction care. The article serves as a reference point for patients and families seeking clarity on opioid-related respiratory depression while supporting broader efforts to reduce preventable harm and improve recovery outcomes through medically informed, structured treatment.

Silverback AI Chatbot Details Ongoing Development of AI Assistant Functionality to Support Structured Digital Interaction

    New York, New York – January 15, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –

Silverback AI Chatbot has announced continued development and refinement of its AI Assistant functionality, reflecting broader changes in how organizations manage digital communication, information access, and automated support across online environments. The announcement highlights the growing role of structured AI-driven assistance in supporting clarity, consistency, and continuity within digital interactions, particularly as user expectations around responsiveness and accuracy continue to evolve.

According to Silverback AI Chatbot, digital communication volumes have increased significantly across websites, messaging interfaces, and self-service platforms. Users now expect immediate access to information regardless of time constraints, channel availability, or organizational staffing conditions. In response to these expectations, AI Assistant systems have emerged as foundational tools for managing recurring inquiries and guiding users through structured information pathways. The ongoing development of Silverback AI Chatbot’s AI Assistant is intended to support these needs through disciplined conversation design and controlled automation logic.

    Silverback AI Chatbot’s AI Assistant

Silverback AI Chatbot AI Assistant functionality is structured around predefined conversational frameworks that guide users toward relevant information or next steps based on their inquiries. Rather than relying exclusively on open-ended or improvisational responses, the system emphasizes structured interaction flows that align with documented knowledge sources and operational objectives. This approach helps reduce ambiguity during automated interactions and ensures that responses remain consistent with approved organizational information.

A central component of the AI Assistant is intent recognition. Silverback AI Chatbot explains that effective automation depends on the system’s ability to interpret the purpose behind varied user phrasing. The AI Assistant applies natural language processing to categorize inquiries based on intent rather than relying on exact keyword matching. This capability allows the system to respond appropriately across a wide range of input styles while maintaining clarity and relevance in its responses.

Context retention is another key focus within the AI Assistant framework. Silverback AI Chatbot notes that fragmented interactions can undermine user experience when systems fail to maintain conversational continuity. The AI Assistant is designed to retain contextual information across multiple exchanges, enabling follow-up questions, progressive disclosure of information, and task completion without requiring users to restart conversations. This continuity supports smoother interaction flows and more efficient resolution of user needs.

The announcement also addresses the importance of availability and response consistency. Digital platforms operate continuously, and user inquiries often occur outside of traditional operating windows. The AI Assistant is designed to provide uninterrupted access to information, ensuring that users receive timely and consistent responses regardless of timing. Silverback AI Chatbot emphasizes that continuous availability is not intended to increase interaction volume indiscriminately, but rather to ensure that accurate information remains accessible when human assistance is not immediately available.

Integration with existing digital systems is identified as an essential consideration in AI Assistant development. Silverback AI Chatbot explains that automated assistance must function within broader digital ecosystems, including websites, internal databases, and customer management platforms. The AI Assistant is structured to connect with these systems in a controlled manner, supporting data continuity while reducing the creation of isolated information silos. This integration allows automated interactions to align more closely with manual workflows and internal records.

Escalation protocols are also highlighted as a critical element of responsible AI Assistant design. Silverback AI Chatbot acknowledges that certain inquiries exceed the scope of automated assistance due to complexity, sensitivity, or ambiguity. The AI Assistant includes predefined escalation conditions that transfer conversations to human operators or alternative support channels when thresholds are met. This ensures that automation supports, rather than obstructs, effective communication and decision-making.

Data handling and governance considerations are addressed as part of the AI Assistant’s operational framework. Automated interactions frequently involve sensitive or personally identifiable information, making structured data management essential. Silverback AI Chatbot states that the AI Assistant incorporates configurable controls related to data retention, access permissions, and interaction logging. These controls allow organizations to align automated assistance with internal governance standards and applicable data protection requirements.

The analytical role of the AI Assistant is also discussed in the announcement. Beyond responding to inquiries, the system generates structured interaction data that can inform operational insights. Silverback AI Chatbot explains that reporting mechanisms highlight inquiry frequency, resolution pathways, and engagement patterns. These insights can help organizations identify recurring information gaps, refine content structures, and improve overall digital communication strategies over time.

Accessibility and inclusivity are noted as additional considerations in the AI Assistant’s development. Digital communication increasingly spans diverse user groups with varying language needs and accessibility requirements. Silverback AI Chatbot explains that its AI Assistant framework supports language expansion and compatibility with assistive technologies, helping ensure that automated assistance remains usable across a broad range of interaction contexts.

The announcement also emphasizes the importance of tone neutrality and response clarity. Silverback AI Chatbot notes that AI Assistant responses are designed to prioritize factual accuracy, clear language, and consistency with organizational communication standards. Rather than emphasizing conversational novelty, the system focuses on delivering information in a manner that supports understanding and trust.

Deployment flexibility is addressed as part of the AI Assistant’s implementation approach. Organizations adopt automated assistance at different stages of digital maturity and with varying scopes. Silverback AI Chatbot states that the AI Assistant supports phased deployment, allowing teams to introduce automation in limited use cases and expand functionality as processes mature. This approach reduces disruption and supports measured evaluation of performance and impact.

Testing and validation processes are also highlighted. Silverback AI Chatbot explains that AI Assistant workflows, escalation rules, and integration points can be evaluated in controlled environments before full deployment. This testing process helps identify unintended outcomes, ensure response accuracy, and reduce the likelihood of issues affecting live interactions.

The announcement positions the AI Assistant within a broader shift toward structured digital communication. As organizations seek predictable, manageable, and transparent interaction systems, disciplined automation frameworks provide a way to handle scale without sacrificing clarity. Silverback AI Chatbot emphasizes that its development efforts prioritize stability, transparency, and controlled adaptability rather than rapid or experimental feature expansion.

Silverback AI Chatbot concludes that AI Assistant technology will continue to play an increasingly important role in managing digital interactions as communication channels evolve and user expectations change. Ongoing development efforts remain focused on responsible automation practices that align with operational needs, data governance requirements, and user clarity. By emphasizing structured conversation design, contextual awareness, and controlled integration, Silverback AI Chatbot aims to support digital environments where automated assistance contributes to consistent and reliable interaction outcomes.
